I'm puzzled about this:

The US admits some of civilian killing and categoricaly rejects other claims.
Why would afghan tribal leader and local police lie?

Quote from: The International Security Assistance Force
ISAF has thoroughly investigated and rejects claims that ISAF forces killed more than 50 civilians in the Shindand area.
Our extensive investigation reveals that the closest airstrikes carried out were 13 km to the South East of these villages. ISAF therefore rejects these claims as baseless.
...
The raid was against "high priority Taliban targets" and that two "Taliban leaders" and a "significant number of insurgents" were also killed. There was no evidence of any civilian casualties.

I think a lot of times the terrorists claim that civilians were killed when in fact they were terrorists. Given the fact that the airstrike was at least 13km away, it would have been to the terrorists advantage to claim civilians were killed, hoping for better press and sympathy from people all over the world.

The ISAF (read U.S.) usually is pretty truthful about such things.

Exact numbers are always hard to confirm but it's most certainly civilian casualties and a f-up.

Today, it was a US-Afghan "join mistake" and in other occasions the US has admitted killing civilians by mistake, like this mortar shell landing one kilometer from its target.
But I'm curious to know the origin of the "50 civilian killed" that the US deny.
