I just got back from seeing that movie and all I can say is that was the most thrilling, most serious and at the same time most fucked up movie of the year. It was definitely better than Batman Begins, by a long shot.
Heath Ledger played the shit out of this part. Awesome indeed.
One thing I should warn you about:you might feel a little bad at certain parts of the movie.

I wasn't that impressed. It was really good, but it was hyped to be something more.
Ledger's role was fantastic, though. It bums me out because I think the 3rd movie was supposed to center around the Joker more, which obviously won't happen now. That would have been a lot better than this one, IMO.

Anybody know if Two-Face is supposed to come back? I know he died, but movies have a way of flipping things upside down. Just seems like it's odd to have a character that good be that short.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!If he returned, Batman's sacrifice at the end would be meaningless. I thought Harvey Dent's characterization was perfect, and don't feel that two-face required any more screen time. And I love the idea of the Joker as a total anarchist who uses any means to create disorder and barbarism. |

Oh yeah, good point.
I could've used more Batman though. I know Begins was totally focused on Batman, so they obviously wanted that focus to go elsewhere, but c'mon - it's friggin Batman. I think Bale is the perfect Bruce Wayne; a young, good-looking playboy with masterful self-discipline. He's probably the most realistic Batman yet (kudos to Nolan).

ANOTHER SPOILER AHEAD!
The Joker's "magic pencil" trick, when he slammed the guy's head into a pencil standing up and said he made it disappear.
Also, Bruce shows up to a party in a helicopter with 3 women and pimps the party while speaking of Harvey Dent. Funny moment.

I saw it last Sunday and it gave me the artistic chills. In short, I was so amazed at how Christopher Nolan surpassed the last Batman. Maggie Gyllenhall was better than Katie Holmes and Heath Ledger's (may his soul rest in peace) was scaringly perfect.

I wonder how many people would have seen the movie if Heath Ledger was still alive. Would be interested to see how many of the people who saw the movie went and saw it to see Heath Ledgers final performance.

His death had nothing to with my seeing it Fort. I really enjoyed Batman Begins, liked Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne. I liked how the series was much more real, gritty, and dark. I would have seen this no matter what. In fact, I'm quite pissed that he is gone, no Joker for the next one. And I thought his performance as the Joker was outstanding. I've seen it twice.

They're both really good movies, but they certainly have their flaws, especially in TDK, where they tend to show up when contrasting with Ledger's performance. I mean, for instance, the dialogue was pretty often ridiculous (see: all the SWAT officer's lines in the chase/shootout scene), and some parts of the plot didn't make any damn sense. Did the Joker just chill at Bruce's party after he flew off the balcony with Maggie? WTF?
And the "technology" part infuriated me and really detracted from the movie. It's hard to get immersed in the cinematic experience when you have the sneaking suspicion that the whole "cell phone sonar" thing might be absolutely retarded.
I really don't think Nolan has a very good grasp of reality, though. I was surprised no one pointed out in the first movie that any microwave emitter powerful enough to vapourize water mains would also be powerful enough to vapourize anyone standing near it.

I see where you're going, but it's one thing in a sci-fi escapist world (like Star Wars), and a whole other thing in a gritty present-day world like Batman, where utterly unbelievable elements tend to draw you out of the movie. I wouldn't mind sonar cellphones in, say, Alien or Blade Runner or any other movie set either in a fantasy world or the future. |

There is no such thing like Batman in real world. More likely Nolan tried to apply some of real life elements into Gotham's surrealism which always been somehow similar to our world.
