Dogface is the only one I have smited repeatedly. There is a reason for that.
Applauds go out for those who offer good points and of course, entertainment value.

Well a few weeks ago, I would spend my time constantly trying to applaud posters with negative ratios such as Zee Lee, Wigs, Totino etc, to try and balance their ratio. But when I checked the next day, their ratio would be even more in the negative, meaning someone/people had smited them even more. So I couldn't keep up. Unfortunately there are more smiters than applauders on here.  S,ited for trying to be a goodie goodie. |

Here's a description mod for SMF: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=192It's what I use on my forum (only I call it "Prestige"). You have to enter a short description of what you applaud or smite someone for. It also places a link in your profile where you can see who applauded or smited you, why, and even what thread and post it was. Very cool mod. Puts a chill pill on the smite spammers (plus admin can bust them,  ). |

I smite and applaud based on a random number generator. If the number comes up even, I smite you, if it comes up odd, I smite you, if it comes up imaginary, well, then I smite you. Muhahahaha But seriously, I usually try to keep people balance. I have only multi-smited those who post mainly in insults (dogface and pathetic aka hilary08 I am looking at you) and those who have much too much applause  |

I get the impression that some posters smite other posters they don't like, continually,anonymously and purely for spite. Take Zee Lee for example. He is one of the best posters on this forum and he has something like 70 smites  So obviosuly, someone is serial smiting him because they disagree with his opinions on global warming or US foreign policy etc. So when a newbie joins, he looks at a Zee Lee post and thinks "Geez this guy is the resident troll, look at his 70 smites against 20 applauds, I am not going to even bother reading his post". And there are other posters on here who are in a similiar boat. So, if there was some sort of transparency about your smites and applauds, it might make the applaud/smite count a bit more meaningful, and less open to abuse. Just my two australian cents |
