He goes as far as accusing Iran and the West of collaboration in Iraq and Afghanistan.
I know that from they cave they have no internet and may not be aware of the last news, but to tis point...It's very strange.

Unless, perhaps, it's trick to urge Iranian mullahs to do more to provoke the West into Jihad.

Quote from: Ayman al-Zawahri
The (leader of Iran) collaborates with the Americans in occupying Iraq and Afghanistan and recognizes the puppet regimes in both countries, while he warns of death and destruction to anyone who touches an inch of Iranian soil.

Not even one Shi'ite authority -- whether in Iraq or elsewhere -- has issued a fatwa (religious edict) obligating jihad and taking up of arms against the American Crusader invaders in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Iran (Shia) doesn't issue fatwa's b/c they actually have something to lose...a country that has a great deal of economic potential, unlike AQ recruits and AQ leadership.

he's mostly right. Iran has indeed cooperated with the US in Iraq and Afghanistan. Mostly in the early stages. The fact is that the entire Muslim world, as represented by government, partook in the American occupation of Iraq and Afgh. Funny that both Iran and KSA aided Americans in Iraq, expecting opposite results. Iran's bet proved a better one.

Iran may have cooperated in the demise of Saddam Hussein. Not in the US occupation of Iraq.
Iran's backing for Hezbullah-in-Iraq aka al-Sadr brigades, can't realy be seen as "cooperation with the americans".

In the view of al-Qaida, muslims who stay idle while a kahfir power occupy Iraqi holly land, commit a crime of "collaboration with the ennemy of Islam". So does Iran since Moqtada has decided to stop violence.

u possibly remember some other Shiite movements in Iraq. Those were instrumental in the US takeover. Do u think the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq, a thouroughly pro-American movement, acted completely independent from Tehran? Do u think al Sistani was entirely autonomous in his return from Iran and his "pacification" of the Shias? Do you think Tehran woudn't be able to induce a hundred anti-American fatwas by Iraqi Shiite clerics and raise a Shiite uprising against the US? The occupation was a joint US-Iran project which one side has so speedily forgotten, and of which it shall be reminded if it proceeds with its anti-Iranian sable-rattling.

Iran was on the list of "terrorist organisation" so to speak, before the Iraq war commenced.
It would have been naive for Iran to think that they could collaborate with the US at a time when Bush precisely put them inside the Axis of Evil.
So, no, I don;t think they were collaboration.
At best a tacit laissez-faire by Teherean knowing that the americans wer taking care of their most loathed ennemy, Saddam Hussein. As soon as Saddam was gone, it became anther story.
