Now your just getting pathetic.  I could care less if you take me seriously or not.  How else do you choose a president other than going with the ticket that best fits your beliefs?  You are rude and idiotic.  Enough said.

Yeah whatever. How else? How about by track record? They feed you crap for 8 years and you're going to elect them again based on your weak and naive "they are closer to my belief system" crap.  They cheated you once, twice and now you're going to vote them in again....not because you're even thinking about it but because you wouldn't vote anything other than Republican no matter what, and because you obviously hate your country. That's pathetic. Even now as it's all coming down around you you still think they are the messiah. Well go ahead. Screw up your country as much as you can....after all you're so far gone now I'm sure you are able to blame anything on the democrats when the dust settles.

I really couldn't agree more. I let out a good, hearty belly-laugh whenever my stereotypical American relatives (who voted for Bush twice and think Clinton is responsible for the recession - more on that later...) come up to visit and talk about how awesome McCain and Palin are. These are the kind of people that would vote for Joe down at the bowling alley because he's a great guy. What they don't realize is that Joe is a fucking imbecile and his folksiness is just another symptom of his functional retardation. Sadly, people with a single-digit IQ tend to make up the largest body of voters, so people who say cute things and look like a good guy to hang out with get elected, while competent people get the shaft.

Personally, I couldn't care less whether the President's hobbies include orgies and animal sacrifice, or if he wears a top hat and a monocle and is completely unrelatable, as long as he knows what the fuck he's doing I'd be happy with him in the lead (if I lived there).

You are just as bad the bowling alley joe supporters...ROTFL

I'm oversimplifying. If you're thinking I would vote for them based on that... I wouldn't. I just don't care whether they're a hockey mom or a soccer mom or whatever, or, as is the case with Biden, how fucking blindingly white their teeth are. Their personal life, their "folksiness", their hobbies - all totally overshadowed and made irrelevant by their competence, record, experience, and principles.

Honestly, my grandmother cast her vote for Bush because Gore "sounds so boring". And these people are his core supporters.

Crystal...Alysa, I've known you for what?....20 years?  I know we live 2000 miles away from each other now and things are quite a bit different then they were back in our hay day.  But, let me say, that if there is a lesser of two evils here, that "less evil" is Obama/Biden.  You know I'm an unwavering Ron Paul supporter, and the thought of either nominee becoming president is unpleasant for me.  But, and this is a big butt...The thought of McCain/Palin winning the White house is quite possibly the worst thing that could happen to America.  I mean, were already fucked, but if McCain wins....We will be Fu-uuckked.  You get my meaning, sweat meat?  Who loves ya Baybee...

Retro, you of all people, you know what will happen if Obama gets in.  He and Pelosi and Reid will run this country.  The House, Senate and President will all be lead by far left people.  Even moderate democrats have to be worried about that one.  Obama is playing in the middle right now but his record shows a very different position.  (I love you too) Wink

What makes you think, as president, Obama will go out of his way to appease the left and screw the right? I just don't understand why Obama would just stand aside and let Pelosi and Reid run the country.

He's standing pretty tall without their support.

He doesn't owe them any favors.

Why would he become their bitch all of a sudden?

He doesn't need to appease the left, he IS already on the left.  I didn't mean that he would become Pelosi or Reid's bitch, I meant that all three of them will have the chance to run the whole deal.  This has been talked about on here before.  Very few people are in favor of one party being president, House and Senate.  It isn't a good idea.  That goes either way.  Republicans should not have it either.

We've had the executive and legislative branches the same before.

The big problem with this last Congress was there was no president with the backbone to veto a bill. For 6 years, he rubber stamped everything Congress asked for.

Clinton vetoed Dem bills, Reagan vetoed GOP ones.

Only Bush sat there and signed any piece of crap that came across his desk.

Toaster, I perception was that it was the Republican Congress which refused to question anything Bush wanted or did that was the real problem. No oversight over Iraq spending or anything else.

I know. I'm one 'em:

Since a Democratic majority is pretty much inescapable in the House and Senate, I've seriously thought about voting for McCain just to do what *I* can to prevent both the legislative and executive branches of government from being controlled by one party.

Neither Republicans nor Democrats deserve that authority.

But my reasoning is based on the idea that neither party deserves that power - not that liberal Democrats (exclusively) don't.

Maybe you feel the same way... but I can't tell.

The Republicans have so totally screwed up the country that they deserve to be "back benchers" for awhile.

Maybe if they can prove that they have renounced their more damaging and irresponsible ideologies--like tax cuts raise revenues, that government regulation is always bad, that government is never the answer to every problem, and a few others--then they can be allowed to chair a few committees on a probational basis.

In the meantime, let's keep them in isolation, where they can discuss among themselves whether the Earth was created 10,000 years ago, if human-caused global warming is a hoax, if bashing gays is acceptable, if abstenance is really an effective and responsible form of birth control, if beligerence is an effective approach to diplomacy, if voter fraud is a terrible problem, if appointing cronies to important positions in government is acceptable, and so on.

Yes, I feel the same way about either party.  Neither one should have all that power.

Yes, I think we should share power with people who deny human-caused global warming, who bash gays, who only believe in abstenance-only birth control, who think slashing taxes raises tax revenues, who think voter registration fraud is the same as voter fraud, who have a 60 year record of substandard economic performance, and who bring a beligerent, go it alone attitude to foreign relations.

Because lord knows what would happen without them sharing power.

Grow up jpn.  Different people have different views and that is why we have the government set up the way it is.  All sides are supposed to be represented whether we like it or not.  It is the only fair way to handle it.
