I just put an American flag on my porch. It's at a 45 degree angle, not on a pole or the house, but off the edge of the porch. I was just wondering what the correct display times, etc are. Like, what days am I supposed to take it down? What do I do with it when it's supposed to fly at half mast? Things like that. Any help would be appreciated.

Helpful guide from those who have a vested interest in proper flag etiquette...

Veterans Administration

Thanks for asking.

Basically, you are welcome to fly it any way you choose, but if you want to follow some protocol or guidelines, then I think Patton and SC have you covered.  It is one of the benefits of living in a free country.

I've literally spent 5 minutes on it, thanks to this thread. I would have just asked my grandfather, but then I would have had to endure one of his stories. Now that would make me sleepy.

That's disgusting.

Improper flag treatment, like the time I saw a town cop let it touch the ground taking it down from City Hall, is a little irritating to me. It's a bit more aggravating if it's willful, and even more aggravating if the guy doing it is the president.

That picture knocked my respect for Bush, which wasn't very high to begin with, down to a whole new low the first time I saw it.

To be fair, though, it's not like he's signing a real flag with any stitching. It's one of those tiny cheap ones...  Undecided

So, now symbols are only important if they are done up all nice, with stitching?  What about if they are real nice with stitching but made in China?  Would it have been okay then, too?

UHHhuh

Please, don't feign outrage when you come from the party that would rather burn it than fly it.

Quite a claim.  I'm gonna need to see some proof.  That any one party would rather burn it and fly it.  Next that free comes from that party.  Or else this is BS.
