So in the word association thread someone posted something that made me remember this sotry.
The first time I visited the Philipeans while in the USNavy a Marine Sargeant who had cross rated from grunt becuase of an injury took us out the first day and showed us what was safe and what wasn't.
So we are this place getting something to eat that the Sargeant ordered, some osrt of think noodle and meat soap with vegetables. It was REAL good, or maybe I was just drunk,,,,ok probably both. So I asked Cavemen (Sergeant Cavins) what it was. He waves the little Mamma San over and rattle something off in Philipeano while point at me.
She turns to me and say "Ahhhh, How you say? Arf Arf.

But is there any kind of "If it tastes good, don't ask" food, where you live?

Quite a bit, actually. But I'm of the "Don't knock it until you try it" school., so pretty much anything short of guaranteed hepatitis is a go for me. At least once. Seal, walrus, bear, whale, eels, many different kinds of eggs, many odd parts. No gutz No glory. Speaking of guts...

Octopus is pretty good. I got tricked into eating it, but I liked it when I ate it.

I disagree, dogs are far more useful and better friends than cows. Ethically, I guess it's not any better to kill a cow, but they're just so tasty.
I've tried some different stuff. Alligator was ok, nothing to write home about, but not bad. I've never had octopus, but I can't stand squid. Calamari is just too chewy, more bearable if it's done right, but I still don't like it. I thought eel was good, but can't get over the fact that eels creep me out. I've eaten squirrel, and wasn't impressed. Probably my favorite animal I've ever eaten was bear. Delicious.
I like dogs to much to eat one, cats I'm not so keen on, but I think the meat would be too tough and stringy. I have the same feeling about horse, probably wouldn't be very good.

My food aversions would tend more toward eating certain parts of animals than to eating certain animals. If someone gave a stew with some chopped up dog or horse meat, I'd eat it. If it was dog brains, uh, no thanks. Also, I don't like eating animals that look like they did when alive. I could never eat those cooked-whole hamster-like things they eat in Peru. No thanks.
I've only eaten a few of the more rare (from a US perspective) meats. Bison is awesome, as is elk. Alligator was kind of bland. Kangaroo is very chewy. I love sushi, so there's probably not a sushi-able sea creature I haven't eaten raw.

I whole heartily agree. I have had the Kangaroo and alligator. I have also had Rattlesnake, not bad a little bony kind of the same consistency as fish. Deer is ok a little gamey but deer ground meat is excellent. I had sea slug but would pass if offered again, eel is great. I had dog once, it was heavily seasoned so it tasted pretty good.

No one had mentioned insects. I figure if anyone had an experience at all, I would want to know about it.
I don't consider myself that adventurous.
