I'm tired of people thinking they have some right to not be offended.
She's a Catholic making fun of her own religion.
Grow up.

Of course there would have been a different reaction to saying "Suck it, Mohammad," as well there should have been.
Ridiculing a minority is always more controversial than ridiculing a majority. As it should be. Majorities are always in far less danger than minorities. Are you classifying Islam as a minority? The term "Suck it, Jesus" is insulting to all Christians, not just those in America. In the same vein, "Suck it, Mohammad" would be insulting to all Muslims, not just those in the US. It's naive at best to claim Islam as a "minority": ..but your right, reaction would've likely been different....rending of garments, gnashing of teeth, rioting, burning....etc..

Really BBW? Show me where I said one racist comment. But I can show you where a mod at this board has and nothing was done about it.

Had she said, "Suck it, pedophile Priests!" then she might have added a bit more shock value.

Well, technically that does mean they are not a majority. BTW, why the hell are we talking about speculation over how some group would react to the ravings of a D-list celebrity anyway. It is all speculation. I am surprised at how much Catholics and Christians are over-reacting. What one needs to remember before getting offended about something is, it is Kathy Griffin that said it. Since when has she been relevant?

A quip, a turn of the phrase, but untrue. If double standards were acceptable by the majority, then there wouldn't be a constitution. This alone pretty much makes the last post, incorrect.

I am surprised at how much Catholics and Christians are over-reacting. Good point. They should stop issuing fatwas and sending waves of "suicide" bombers to kill people who joke about their religion.

Does it hurt to have your head so far up your rectal cavity? BTW, how did the Muslims react to Ms. Griffin saying, "suck it, Mohammad"?

BTW, how did the Muslims react to Ms. Griffin saying, "suck it, Mohammad"?
You seem allergic to the point. We have experience with minor public figures taking mild jabs at Mohammed. The differences in reaction shouldn't be too subtle to notice.

Don't you (I mean "you" in a general sense, not addressing any poster) think that the reason we're even having these types of discussions is because of the labeling of some kinds of speech as "hate speech" and therefore banned? My point is that we're now reaping the harvest of political correctness, where no one can be offended and we all have to be sensitivie little prisses.
I'm offended by what she said - but so what? What are my options? Get angry about it and demand action, or, rather, just simply ignore her? As a practicing Christian, isn't the right thing to simply ignore her and move on? As a believer in free speech, shouldn't she be free to say such idiocy? Sure (with given limits for libel, slander, etc.)
The poster who said it was ok to mock majorities *more* than minorities is obviously incorrect - it's ok to mock everyone equally. If you don't like it, don't listen to it.
People should grow thicker skins. What a bunch of babies this whole "politically correct" nonsense has spawned.

Well, technically that does mean they are not a majority. Well, technically, neither is Christianity. 33% of the world is Christian, the rest isn't. I am surprised at how much Catholics and Christians are over-reacting.
Indeed. I mean, it's not like they have their heads up their asses. How relevent is a Dutch cartoonist?

It was a horrible over-reaction to the dutch cartoonist, but if a Christians goal is to not react as poorly as extremist of a Muslim faith, then maybe the goals are not set very high.

It isn't a goal. It's an illustration to the OP's point re: possible Muslim reaction. We have Muslim reaction to what most view as minor insult. The likelyhood of a similar reaction to "Suck it Mohammed" isn't much of a stretch.

Good for her. I, like her, especially hate it when entertainers suggest that the only reason for their success was a higher power. Puh-lease. She's an entertainer. She usually makes comments like this. Many don't like her comedy and the things she says but she gets the airtime because of the crass things she says. (Though, I think Andy Dick is funnier) She finally got an award and was excited about it and decided to express how she felt about it. She pretty much was saying that she deserved the award because she earned it, not that it was given to her by some higher power. Why should this be such a big deal? We need D9 to rant on this one. Now I understand why athiests get so offensive.
