I didn't see this coming. Pat Robertson Endorses Giuliani WASHINGTON (AP) - Televangelist Pat Robertson, founder of the Christian Coalition, endorsed Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani on Wednesday. "It is my pleasure to announce my support for America's Mayor, Rudy Giuliani, a proven leader who is not afraid of what lies ahead and who will cast a hopeful vision for all Americans," Robertson said during a news conference with Giuliani in Washington. LINK I thought he may endorse Romney... or even Thompson... but Guiliani? Eh, chances are good other evangelicals won't vote that way, though.

I wish I understood why this is even news. Why does anyone care that some delusional jesus freak endorsed Giuliani? It takes someone as stupid as Robertson to endorse a complete jackass like Giuliani. These Christian freaks sure do set the bar high. They pick GW to be their man and now RG. Do they try to pick the dumbest guy?

BBW is right. They do vote... and have the power to shape elections if they become united: In terms of the size of the group: Twenty-one percent of voters in the 2004 presidential election were evangelical white Protestants (including other non-Catholic, non-Mormon Christians). Though these evangelicals are quite a mixed bag: Evangelicals appear conflicted when it comes to Giuliani, who leads in national polls and is gaining strength in the key early primary state of New Hampshire. Giuliani supports abortion rights and, during his tenure as New York City mayor, supported expanding the rights of gays and lesbians - positions evangelical voters overwhelmingly oppose. Only 29 percent of white evangelical voters said they could vote for a candidate that disagrees with them on abortion and same-sex marriage.
Yet, when asked about Giuliani specifically, these same voters seem more flexible. Sixty-one percent of white evangelicals said they would at least consider voting for Giuliani if he were the Republican nominee in 2008, with 29 percent saying they would “definitely” vote for him. Only 17 percent said there was no way they would vote for Giuliani, while 22 percent said it was too early to judge. And 61 percent of white evangelicals said they would vote for a candidate with less conservative views than them in the general election if they believed that candidate would win.

Giuliani sold his soul to Satan, who has Robertson on retainer.
That's the only explanation I can think of for this.

Sounds to me like an accurate assessment of the situation.

Quite right. And as far as I can tell, Tenacious D are the only ones who can reverse this.

Proof that politics and views don't matter as long as you're famous and everyone thinks you've got something to offer....

When Ron Paul said that he thought US policy created a blowback scenario resulting in 9/11, Giuliani acted like he had never heard someone say that the US government policy was partly to blame for the pre-9/11 global environment.
Now, however, Rudy has accepted the endorsement of a man who, while smoke was still billowing out of the WTC, said on national TV that Americans (Americans themselves, like gays, abortion rights advocates, the ACLU, feminists, etc., no blame was assigned to government policy) were the root cause of 9/11.
In the same time period, Rudy was dressing in drag for comedy sketches, living with a gay couple he said he'd marry once it became legal, and separating from his second wife on live TV while engaging in an adulterous affair with his then-mistress.
I think somehow the wormhole of reality just folded in on itself and exploded.

Well... those are all good points.
