I’m an employee of the Belgian embassy in Ukraine. And I was shocked when my 16-year old son Claude greeted me with thrown up hand and “Heil Hitler!” My wife is a Jew and never concealed that. But passed out when Claude offered her to sew yellow Star of David on her sleeve. That turned out to be their homework! I sent my son into most respectable Pechersk School International in Ukraine. Daughters of Ukrainian President study there. I couldn’t think that praising of Hitler and Fascism would be in school curriculum. I forbade my son finding 68 reasons in defense of Adolf Hitler and making propaganda placard devoted to Nazi leader.
Well, I’ve been aware of Ukrainian past when bands of Bandera and Shushkevitch extirpated Jews during World War II. But I thought that it is just history and Ukrainians learnt a lesson from it. But now I watch the same Fascism rising here again. This exhibition is little bit of the whole terrible picture. Yushchenko may say anything he likes now condemning Hitler’s exhibition in Pechersk school. He may move his daughters into another school. This isn’t solution of the problem for he merely runs away from Nazi teachers but doesn’t forbid them continue teaching Nazism our children. Also it won’t cancel his decrees about opening memorials to Ukrainian Fascists and equalization of them to heroes of WW II. Ukraine turns into Nazi country. I’m already soliciting about outgoing from Ukraine.
