Topic: No more time out?

So I guess now teachers can't even place a child in time out. Eventually something has to give. Someone must take responciblity for realisng that children desire and thrive under strick guildlines and discipline.

I am begining to wonder if there is a decent salary possible to amke people want to be teachers. I know I sure as hell wouldn't want to put up with everyones brats with the lack of control tools that have been given to educators.

Wha? Did you actually read this? We're not talking about time outs here, we are talking tying someone up and locking them in the closet....

"The bill, which passed 262-153, sets guidelines that allow physical restraint or locked seclusion only when there is imminent danger of injury. It bans mechanical restraints such as strapping children to chairs or duct-taping body parts, and prohibits behavior-controlling medications that aren't prescribed by doctors."

jesus, talk about a simple-headed reactionary...

Hell is a place where there is no reason.

Re: No more time out?

You have a bill that was passed becuase some few teachers and admistrators, I would judge bad teachers and administrators, used what I would agree are excessive measures.

BUT instead of fixing the problem, poorly run schools and undisciplined children, they saddle the schools with more legislation that will inhibit teachers abilities to manage thier classes in an already difficult culture.

Just like cops afraid to pull thier guns or shoot to kill, I believe they are going to create teachers who will be afraid to step in and deal with unruly children leading to the further dumbing down of our society. Remeber, anti child abuse laws started with good intentions, now they have led to parents afraid to discipline thier own children for fear the child will report them and some liberal bleeding heart like you will see a simple spanking as excessive.

That is the problem with the liberal mindset. You belive that if you pass a law, it will help, and sometimes your right but you have to bed down with the ghost of unintended consequences. Laws have far reaching social impact that is often ignored when the law is being written.

Did you read the part about the ban on duct-taping body parts...?

Imma let you finish, but just so you know, you can still duct-tape...all you want. As long as the kid is totally nuts. You should read the article. It is just saying you might use better judgment with the duct tape...time out is fine. Seriously...read the article you posted. Do you have kids?

Sorry, don't mean to be a dick, here, but I'm having a rough time controlling my laughter.

Thank God allpoints knows what I'm saying...and neither of us believe in God...  big_smile

No, seriously, it's just about the excessive use of duct tape and other draconian measures, dude. Trust me, I'd be on your side if what you said is true, sometimes a kid needs a smack. Chill...

Re: No more time out?

And I have little doubt that the exact same thing was said about anti child abuse laws in the early stages of that push. YES I over stated the arguement by stating no time outs but I did so with a purpose, to attract attention, shameless of me I know.

I still say this will have long range implications that have nothing to do with draconian menthods which duct taping kids to chairs, I would agree is draconian and down right stupid as well.
