I'd like to personally thank BP for that gift that keeps on giving!
30 days and counting, estimated at over 200,000 gallons a day. Now starting to wash up on shores.
I am somewhat surprised there is no "shut off" valve buried deep in sea floor...you'd think they would have multiple contingency plans for this sort of thing, an oil platform leaking? It's not like an unexpected iceburg hit the platform, or the oil rig captain ran into one.

Agreed. This isn't sustainable, is it?
*exactly* -- you got my point!

Great idea -- hadn't thought about how to implement this, but right on point -- we need to teach the skills to remain competitive. Not everyone will be an x-box champion or athlete when they grow up.
Cryptomaniac wrote:They have become (in many cases) very sloppy and kids really don't care to learn these days.
This is much of the problem. It isn't correct to say it's 100% the schools' faults...parents should be active in their childrens' education...my perception is that this notion has declined considerably in the last 20 years.

Don't know -- all of a sudden it was like "Night of the Comet" around here...good to have ya back!
If only those who can afford private schools are educate...who will be left to carry the economy if the rest of us can't afford to buy anything?

Still don't see it. I don't know which way the plane was going, and what exactly is the "evidence" you put forth without an arrow or two explaining it.
interesting -- but I don't see what your talking about in the picture (not that your wrong).
It looks to me that the green area is where the plane crashed which is headed directly into what appears to be a run-way (at the top of the photo).
Perhaps marking that up with some errors and text would help explain it.
I wonder how many photocopies of people's derrières they found.
gommi, my first thought is that all it takes is one well placed nuke to be a threat.

This makes perfect sense -- that a digital copier would store a copy of the image it just created while scanning -- it really has never crossed my mind that it would do that though.
It wouldn't take much to get your hands on one: about $300 according to the story.
Man this guy sure does have a crappy web site for a Californian.
Remember that unemployment figures are completely unrealistic. They only include those who file for unemployment. Small businesses, contractors, self-employed -- and anyone who has had their unemployment insurance run out are no longer counted (despite not having found a job and being unemployed).
I was only pokin' fun -- no need to call me names.
I can spot the trend - using emotional colors and fake data to try to make a point :-D
what would the impact be if the top of the curve was more in the middle, rather than at the bottom?
Does that necessarily mean there would be wealth redistribution in the US?
Does anyone know of a site that provides information on gubernatorial elections?
Toll is at 41 according some news results from Google News.
The authorities suspect terrorism, but no confirmation. 2 explosions took place, about 40 minutes apart in a Moscow metro station.

agreed. I suppose if one didn't know any better with respect to morality, then religion could help them find it.

By subsidizing premiums, costs for middle class families will be reduced.
I seriously doubt that -- subsidizing is a temporary solution. The cost isn't going down, it's simply transferred to tax payers.
gommi wrote:What's Ron Paul think of it? These days he's about the only one of 'em I will trust.
Ron Paul is not a rational or realistic politician. According to him, no increase in government spending is justified.
I agree with that then. Government spending should be decreasing, not increasing. It's common sense.
Explain how it will help the middle class, and I'll listen. Most of what I hear about the matter is pure rhetoric from both sides of the aisle. What's Ron Paul think of it? These days he's about the only one of 'em I will trust.
The fact remains, the law is making it illegal to not buy insurance -- only time will tell if it will benefit people.

yes, it concerns me that not one republican voted for it (and i'm not a republican).
It concerns me that it was rammed through at the 11th hour -- then voted on the next morning. I'm reading about all the "exceptions" to the rule...and there's nothing about the cost actually going down.
My take is that it may do a few good things for those in difficult situations (albeit w/ all kinds of exceptions that probably make it nearly impossible to qualify for those benefits). Also making it law w/ a penalty if you can't buy health insurance (for whatever reason) I don't like.
10 Groups Of People That Still Won't Have Healthcare Coverage Under Obamacare
Here are a few:
Children with chronic disease, who are not already covered, can be denied coverage
People who can't afford health insurance and don't qualify for Medicare
People in between coverage for less than 3 months
Exchange students and others with temporary work visas
Children whose parents decline or can't get insurance
not sure you understand my ideology (if i were to even have one).
my point is that whatever the claim is it will likely not live up to it for healthcare. I'm already reading about "exceptions" and "temporary" solutions with respect to the pre-existing condition issue.
