Topic: Palestinian Propaganda...
I get a real kick out of the twisting and bending Palestinian leadership often engages in obvious attempts to deceive and distort the facts.... AND WE HAVE ANOTHER PRIME EXAMPLE as quoted by the Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas...
...."We have accepted the road map and United Nations resolutions and we have fulfilled all our obligations toward the peace process...,"...

At a glance, one might think that Abbas is claiming to have fulfilled "all" of his/the Palestinians obligations under the" road map" ... (and theoretically simultaneously pointing the finger in blame at Israel for not fulfilling theirs).... BUT we actually have to look at these "carefully chosen words" very carefully ("carefully chosen" as to not blow up in the leaders face when presented with the facts).
What he said:
"We have accepted the road map"
..... Well of course he has... How could he not. The "road map" exists, is well documented to exist, and that Abbas "accepts the road map" this isn't really saying anything "earth-shattering" as it was presented and negotiated with his people.
"we have fulfilled all our obligations toward the peace process"
.... As the "peace process" itself has no documented or specific obligations to be fulfilled", his statement is no more than a matter of opinion
WHAT HE DIDN'T SAY:
.... (He didn't say) that the Palestinians had fulfilled their obligations under the road map (YET his words are clearly hoping that the casual reader will jump to that conclusion, and then blame Israel for the "road map's" failure)...
WHY did he chose his words so carefully? Clearly because he didn't want to be caught in a blatant, easily disprovable lie.
The "Road Map", More formally called "The Road Map to Peace" (2003) IS VERY CLEAR as to what Palestinian obligations are under it (as well as Israel's)... AND what is also very clear is that THE PALESTINIANS NEVER EVEN MADE IT THROUGH PHASE ONE..(not even close).
FROM THE TEXT OF THE "ROAD MAP TO PEACE"
....A two state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will only be achieved through an end to violence and terrorism, when the Palestinian people have a leadership acting decisively against terror...
... Phase I: Ending terror and violence, normalizing Palestinian life, and building Palestinian institutions (present to May 2003)
In Phase I, the Palestinians immediately undertake an unconditional cessation of violence....
At the outset of Phase I:
# Palestinian leadership issues unequivocal statement reiterating Israel's right to exist in peace and security and calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire to end armed activity and all acts of violence against Israelis anywhere. All official Palestinian institutions end incitement against Israel.
...When the Palestinian people have a leadership acting decisively against terror?? Does this statement, and the Palestinians leadership failure to act on it even need a more detailedexplanation?? ... NOT ONLY are they not "acting decisively against Terror, Hamas (which is Palestinian Leadership) conducts, supports, and claims responsibility for the majority of the terror against Israel.
...UNCONDITIONAL ceasefire?? ... NEVER HAPPENED... All and any temporary ceasefires entered into by the Palestinian leadership (Fatah/Hamas) ALL had conditions attached to them, and of course, never lasted.
...UNEQUIVOCAL statement reiteration Israel's right to exist in peace and security? While Fatah has made half-hearted mumblings in this direction, HAMAS (elected by the Palestinian People) certainly NEVER HAS. And much to the contrary, Hamas remains dedicated to Israel's eventual destruction.
Certainly Israel has/had obligations under the Road Map as well, which at the time, they took steps toward. HOWEVER, when it became abundantly clear that the Palestinian Leadership had no intention of acting upon their obligations, there was no need for Israel act on theirs. Palestinian leadership has made a habit out of ignoring their obligations, WHILE BLAMING Israel for not living up to theirs. They demand Israeli concessions, but offer little more than lip service in return.
Anyway, just another example of carefully chosen words intended to deceive and mislead... And unfortunately many continue to buy it rather than checking the facts for themselves.
